Scarlett Johansson was Born on November 22, 1984 in New York City. Her father is Karsten Johansson who was born in Denmark and her granfather, Ejner Johansson, was a screenwriter and director. Her mother Melanie Sloan was form a Bronx-bred American Jewish family. Scarlett's grandmother Dorothy was a former bookkeeper and schoolteacher. Because of her grandmother she met Karsten Johansson when they were living in Denmark. Her older sister Vanessa is also an actress. She has a brother Adrian, a twin brother, Hunter, and a half-brother, Christian.
She completed her graduation from The Professional Children's School in Manhattan in 2002. She started acting from her college time. She was credited for the role of Grace MacLean in the Hollywood movie The Horse Whisperer.
Some of her roles in credited films include: Charlotte in Lost in Translation, Rebecca in Ghost World, Francesca in The Perfect Score, Griet in Girl with a Pearl Earring, and Nola in Match Point.
Scarlett Johansson's all these performances were noticeable and she was nominated for two best actress awards at 2003's Golden Globes one for Girl with a Pearl Earring and other one for comedy film Lost in Translation. Also at the BAFTAs she was nominated for best actress for both of those films. She is the voice of Princess Mindy in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and won best actress for Lost in Translation.
In June 2004 she was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In the same year she starred in A Love Song for Bobby Long and earned her a third Golden Globe Award nomination. In July 2005, Johansson starred with Ewan McGregor in the Michael Bay-directed The Island.
On August 19, 2005, Scarlett Johansson, trailed in her car by four SUVs carrying paparazzi, tried to escape by driving into the Disneyland parking lot in Anaheim, California. Her Mercedes struck a car containing a woman and her two daughters; nobody was injured in the fender bender, which was photographed by the paparazzi.
Johansson was also appeared in an advertisement campaign for the Calvin Klein perfume Moment. She has also modeled for the French luxury brand Louis Vuitton and was signed to L'Oreal in January 2006. She received a Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe nomination for her performance in The Constant Gardener.
Johansson was featured on the cover of the February 2006 issue of Vanity Fair magazine, with Keira Knightley. Also she had taken part in an anti-poverty campaign which was organized by U2 lead singer, Bono and campaigned for John Kerry in the 2004 Presidential Election.
